Black Salt, the Indian restaurant on Upper Richmond Road West, went into administration on 15 September. Its website is still taking table bookings.
Black Salt, the Indian restaurant at 505-507 Upper Richmond Road West in East Sheen, has gone into administration. Two administrators were appointed to the company that runs it on 15 September 2026.
The appointment was published in The London Gazette on 18 September. The company is Black Salt Sheen Limited, and the Gazette gives its business as “licensed restaurant”. The case sits in the High Court’s insolvency and companies list, number CR-2026-007127.
The administrators are Rupen Patel and Duncan Coutts of Coots & Boots Limited, an insolvency firm in Mayfair.
Is Black Salt still open?
Its own website does not say otherwise. On 29 September blacksaltsheen.com still listed its opening hours and a reservations page:
- Monday: closed
- Tuesday to Thursday: 5pm to 10pm
- Friday: 5pm to 10.30pm
- Saturday: 12pm to 2.30pm, then 5pm to 10.30pm
- Sunday: 12pm to 9pm
Administration does not by itself mean a restaurant shuts. Administrators take control of the company, and a business can keep trading while they look for a buyer or a rescue deal. Neither the administrators nor the restaurant has published anything about Black Salt’s future. If you have a table booked, ring the restaurant on 020 4548 3327 to confirm it.
What the public record shows
Companies House now lists Black Salt Sheen Limited as “In Administration”. Its filing history shows two recent changes:
- On 22 September, the registered office moved from the restaurant to an address in Northampton.
- On 28 September, the formal notice of the administrator’s appointment was filed. Companies House says the document will be available in 10 days.
The company was incorporated on 12 February 2021. The restaurant says it opened in June 2021.
Its most recent accounts cover the year to 28 February 2025. They are small-company accounts with no profit and loss figures, but the balance sheet shows money tightening:
| Item | 29 Feb 2024 | 28 Feb 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Cash at bank and in hand | £123,211 | £83,991 |
| Owed to creditors within a year | £141,806 | £107,446 |
| Net current assets (liabilities) | £12,874 | (£8,982) |
| Net assets | £53,291 | £32,458 |
Those figures are 19 months old. The accounts for the year to February 2026 are due by 30 November 2026 and have not been filed. So the public record does not yet show what happened since, or why the company went into administration.
A well-reviewed neighbourhood restaurant
Black Salt was set up by Sanjay Patel and his daughter Simeron Lily with the chefs Sanjay Gour and Nand Kishor Semwal, according to its website. It describes itself as a “Michelin rated neighbourhood restaurant”.
It drew national reviews early. The restaurant’s site quotes Jay Rayner in The Observer calling it “far more than just another suburban restaurant”, and Tom Parker Bowles in The Mail on Sunday writing that it was “already up there with the best” within its first year.
What it means for you
- If you have a booking, call the restaurant before you travel.
- If you hold a gift voucher or paid a deposit, you may be a creditor of the company. The Gazette notice gives the contact for creditors as creditors@cootsandboots.com or 020 3357 1870.
- If you are owed money as a supplier or former employee, the same contact applies.
We will report what the administrators decide once their proposals are filed. For other places to eat nearby, our directory entry for Black Salt sits alongside the rest of East Sheen’s restaurants in the Richmond business directory.
