A barbershop chain that started in Banstead, in Surrey, is opening its biggest shop in Richmond this month, and making it the head office of the whole business.
Sammie’s Studio confirmed to Richmond Online that it opens at 10 Hill Street, TW9 1TN, on Monday 28 September. The unit was previously a menswear shop, which the company names as Curated Men. Its window vinyl is already up behind the old fascia.
Nine chairs, and a training academy upstairs
The Richmond shop has nine chairs across two floors. Five are on the ground-floor barbershop floor. Four more are upstairs in a training academy, which is the part of the plan the company is most keen to talk about.

“It is the biggest Sammie’s we have to date, and Richmond will become our new HQ,” the company said.
The company describes the site as Richmond High Street. The address it gave us is 10 Hill Street, TW9 1TN, so that is the one to put in your phone.
It is recruiting in Richmond
Sammie’s says it is hiring locally, and that the academy is aimed at people at the start of a barbering career rather than only at experienced staff.
“We are definitely recruiting locally, and we are looking to taking on as many barbers as possible in our new ‘Sammie’s Academy’, for upcoming barbers who have finished college, or currently in college. Or just aspiring for a career in barbering. We are always on the lookout for new talent.”
That is a training place on Hill Street for a school leaver from Richmond, Twickenham or Teddington who wants the trade, which is worth knowing if you have one at home. Enquiries go through the company’s own site.
What a cut costs
A standard cut starts at £20 with a junior barber and goes up to £35 with a senior barber. The shop takes bookings and walk-ins, so you are not locked into an appointment if you happen to be passing on a Saturday.
Eight years from Banstead to Richmond
The first Sammie’s opened in Banstead, in Surrey, about eight years ago. The group has added Worcester Park, Fulham and Northcote Road since, and Richmond is the fifth.
The company puts the move like this:
“Richmond has been on Sammie’s list for a very long time, and it’s the biggest step the brand has made (and shop!) since the very beginning. The location is a prime spot right on Richmond High Street, and when the unit became available, it felt like an opportunity he couldn’t miss.”
On what it is going for, the company said: “It has always been about Sammie’s being so much more than a standard barbershop where you come in and get a ten-minute haircut. The entire journey from the second you walk in feels like a total experience. A down-to-earth, comfortable, sophisticated and elevated experience.”

Two things were not settled when we published. Sammie’s told us the shop will trade seven days a week, but it did not give the exact opening and closing times, and we are not going to guess them. It also has not said whether anything is happening in launch week that readers can turn up to. We will add both here if the company confirms them.
