Richmond Online is an independent news and information site for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames: Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington, Whitton, Hampton, Hampton Hill, Hampton Wick, St Margarets, Strawberry Hill, Kew, Mortlake, Barnes, East Sheen, Ham and Petersham. This is Richmond in south west London, not Richmond in North Yorkshire. We report what the public record shows and keep the everyday local information accurate.
How we work
We build stories from primary sources: the council’s own records and press office, the borough’s planning register, police.uk crime data, The Gazette, the Food Standards Agency’s hygiene ratings and Companies House. Every fact links back to the record it came from, so you can check it yourself. Where a record is ambiguous or incomplete, we say so rather than fill the gap. We use British English and plain language.
Two local details shape how we check things:
- Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth share one staff structure through the South London Partnership, but they remain separate councils taking separate decisions. A Wandsworth committee paper is never the source for a Richmond story here.
- Because the borough spans both banks of the Thames, its postcodes are shared with Hounslow, Kingston, Wandsworth and Spelthorne. A TW or SW postcode on its own does not put an address in Richmond, so we confirm the address before we publish.
