The Flower Festival at Strawberry Hill House returns for four days next month. It opens on Thursday 10 September and runs to Sunday 13 September, 9am to 5pm each day.
Book early if you want to go. The house says ticket numbers are capped, because the building is Grade I listed and can only take so many people at once.
An adult ticket is £30. That is close to double what it normally costs to get in, so this is a different proposition from an ordinary visit.

The prices on the house’s own booking page are:

Each type also has a slightly higher “with donation” option at checkout.
For comparison, normal admission to the house and garden starts at £16.50 when booked online, and costs more if you pay on arrival.
What is included
The festival page says more than 30 floral designers fill the house and the gardens with installations, working with British-grown flowers. General admission also covers a programme of free talks and live demonstrations in the festival marquee, which you can visit before or after your slot in the house.

- a panel discussion with curators
- a retail village of artisan makers and flower growers
- a pre-ordered picnic from the Garden Café by Roots & Berries, £29 a head
The house also lists Strawberry Hill After Dark on the evenings of Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, with after-hours access and a glass of fizz in the gallery. That is a separate booking from the daytime ticket.
Getting there
The house is at 268 Waldegrave Road, Twickenham, TW1 4ST. Strawberry Hill station is a five to ten minute walk.
There is free visitor parking on site, but the house describes the spaces as limited, and asks drivers to register their vehicle in the gift shop on arrival. Three Blue Badge bays are available. The alternative is paid parking in Twickenham town centre, which the house puts at 15 to 20 minutes on foot.
On access, the garden and café are wheelchair accessible and there is lift access to the first floor. The lift does not reach the second floor, so the Library, Horace Walpole’s Bedchamber and the Plaid Bedchamber cannot be reached that way. Wheelchairs are available to borrow and assistance dogs are welcome.
What it means for you
If you are planning to go, the three things to act on are the cap on numbers, the price and the carer ticket.
- Numbers are limited, so a walk-up on the day is a risk rather than a plan.
- At £30 an adult, a family of two adults and two under-14s comes to £96 before anything else.
- A carer goes free, which is worth claiming at the point of booking rather than on the door.
- The picnic has to be ordered in advance, not bought on the day.
Four days in September is a short window, and two of them are a Thursday and a Friday. If you want the quieter version, those are the days to aim at.
