Twickenham Match Days: Road Closures and Kick-Off Times

Seven more event days with crowds of 60,000 or more are due at Allianz Stadium before Christmas, and on each of them a ring of Twickenham streets becomes a one-day parking zone and three roads close either side of the whistle.

The council keeps the list. Its Twickenham rugby and event parking page, last updated on 5 August 2026, carries the fixture table, the expected crowd for each date and the rules that follow from the size of it.

The dates and kick-off times

These are the council’s own figures, which match the kick-off times on the England Rugby fixture list.

The last weekend in November is the one to note. The Nations Championship finals bring two matches a day on three consecutive days, which is six full-house afternoons and evenings in 72 hours. Nothing on this scale has run here before, and the council has marked the crowd figure itself as still to be confirmed.

The three November internationals replace what used to be called the Autumn Nations Series. The stadium’s own England v Australia page explains the change: rounds 4 to 6 of the new Nations Championship now take the November window, with the finals weekend as the conclusion.

Harlequins’ Big Game 18 has a December slot on the council’s table but no date beside it. That is the one gap in the calendar; expect it in October.

When the roads close

The council names the roads that can be affected:

• Rugby Road
• Whitton Road, between London Road and Kneller Road
• London Road, between King Street and Whitton Road

Closures typically go in around 1.5 to 2 hours before and after an event, and the council says the exact timing and duration depend on how heavy the pedestrian flow is and what time the match starts. So a 2.10pm kick-off and an 8.10pm kick-off produce very different afternoons on Whitton Road.

Bus routes 281 and 481 stop within a minute’s walk of the ground, and the stadium’s own getting here page flags both as subject to diversion once the road closures go in. Routes 681 and 110 also stop close by, H20 is a five-minute walk and 267 is eight.

The event-day parking zone

Zone hours are 11am to 11pm on event days. That is the single number most people get wrong, because it has nothing to do with kick-off: an 8.10pm match still has restrictions running from 11 in the morning.

The council introduces the Twickenham Event Zone, formally Controlled Parking Zone R, when it expects 25,000 people or more. Above 30,000 it usually implements the full CPZ, which covers a large number of roads in the area. At around 30,000 it uses a smaller sub-CPZ covering only the roads immediately opposite the stadium. Every fixture in the table above is well past both thresholds, so assume the full zone.

The zone is run jointly by Richmond and Hounslow, which is why the boundary does not stop at the borough line. England Rugby’s ticketing note on the CPZ gives the two parking offices: Twickenham on 020 8744 2131, Hounslow on 020 8583 6666.

If you live inside it

Residents and businesses inside Zone R can apply for free one-year permits for themselves and their visitors. Permits for the Heatham (HM), Cole Park (C), Whitton Road (WR), Whitton South (WS) and Whitton Central (WC) zones stay valid on event days with no extra permit needed, as long as they are displayed properly.

The catch runs the other way. Zone R permits are only valid when Zone R is operating, and they are not valid during the days and times the neighbouring zones operate.

Blue Badge holders may park within the Twickenham Event Zone on event days.

If you are driving to the match

Stadium parking must be pre-booked through the official ticketing site; there is no turn-up-and-pay. When the on-site car parks close before a match, the stadium offers the Continental Tyres Rosebine Car Park instead, a ten-minute walk away.

Twickenham sits inside the expanded ULEZ. A non-compliant vehicle anywhere in TW2 costs £12.50 a day.

Getting there without a car

Walking times from the stadium’s own page:

Twickenham station is the obvious choice and therefore the crowded one. Whitton, one stop further out, is a 20-minute walk and a much shorter queue after the final whistle.

Bike racks are in the south-east corner of the stadium by the ticket office.

Tickets

As of 5 September the England Rugby fixture list shows England v New Zealand on 21 November as sold out. The other three are on sale, with from-prices of £20 for Red Roses v New Zealand, £79 for England v Australia, £51 for England v Japan and £103 for the sold-out New Zealand match.
