We checked 20 independent Richmond area shops, from The Open Book to Danieli Chocolates, for opening hours and addresses. Updated November 2026.

The Richmond area has 20 independent shops worth a Christmas shopping trip in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with opening hours, addresses and what each one sells. The Open Book, The Alligator’s Mouth, Danieli Chocolates and London Atelier Byproduct are the names most people land on in town. We checked each entry on 5 November 2026 against the shop’s own site, and say where we could not.

We have not shopped at any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry says what the shop says it sells, in its own words where we can quote them. Shops often change their hours close to Christmas, so check before a special trip.

Dates for the Christmas shopping diary

Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November: Christmas Gifting Market, Richmond. Be Richmond’s first Christmas Gifting Market runs in Whittaker Avenue with Judy’s Vintage and the Big Flea Market, selling gifts from independent craft sellers, treats and preloved finds. It opens Thursday 3pm to 8pm, Friday 12pm to 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm.

Thursday 19 November: Richmond lights switch-on. Be Richmond’s event opens George Street to the public from 4pm, with performances on the stage from 5pm. The Mayor switches on the lights at 5.45pm.

Friday 20 November: Twickenham. The town centre lights switch-on is at 6pm. The Sparkle Festive Fair at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington runs the same weekend.

Thursday 26 November: late-night shopping in Teddington. Teddington Lights Up runs 4.30pm to 8pm, and its programme includes late-night shopping with offers in local shops.

Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December: Orleans House Gallery. The gallery’s Christmas shopping weekend in Twickenham runs 10am to 5pm and is free. Saturday 5 December is also Small Business Saturday, which the council says falls on the first Saturday in December each year.

Shop windows. The council’s October business bulletin gives shops until Friday 20 November to enter its Christmas windows competition, with the public voting and the winner named on 22 December. It gives no voting dates; last year’s vote ran from 1 to 19 December.

We found no 2026 date for late-night shopping on Church Street in Twickenham, which ran on 18 December last year. We will add it if one is published.

Shops we could not confirm

We left three shops out because we could not confirm them on 5 November, not because we know they have closed. Bridge and Hill Livingstore’s site showed a “store unavailable” message, The Wos in Barnes had a website error, and we found no site for The Real Cheese Shop on Barnes High Street. If you know how any of them are doing, please tell us.

More Christmas in Richmond

For stalls and fairs, see Richmond’s Christmas markets. If a shopping day turns into a family outing, there are Christmas at Kew, Ham House at Christmas and the ice rinks near Richmond. For lunch, we have Richmond’s cafes and Christmas dinner in Richmond. Before you drive, read parking in Richmond. The things to do in Richmond page, what’s on this month and our local business directory cover the rest.

How we chose

We started from VisitRichmond’s #ShopLocal lists for each part of the borough, then kept independents selling things people buy as presents, with a working website or a current listing and a named address. Hours, addresses and quotes come from each shop’s own site on 5 November 2026 unless the entry names another source. The order is by area, not by rank.
