Remembrance Sunday in Richmond falls on 8 November 2026, the same day 82,000 head to Twickenham for England v Australia. Here is what is fixed so far.

Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Thirteen separate services are held across Richmond upon Thames, each with its own parade and its own start time, and most of them converge on the two-minute silence at 11am.

The same afternoon, England play Australia at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham in front of an expected 82,000 people, kicking off at 3.10pm. That is the single fact worth planning around, and it is dealt with further down.

What is fixed, and what is not

The date is fixed. The 2026 service times are not.

Richmond Council publishes the full borough list every year as a single news item, and it publishes it late: last year’s went out on 30 October 2025, ten days before the event. Nothing had appeared on the council news pages when we checked on 6 September, and no remembrance road closure notices had reached the public and traffic notices page either, where the most recent batch was dated 3 September.

What does not change much is the geography. The same churches, memorials and assembly points are used year after year. The list below is last year’s, published by the council on 30 October 2025 for Sunday 9 November 2025, and it is the best available guide to where to stand in 2026 until the 2026 version lands. Treat the times as indicative, not booked.

One detail will definitely change. The 2025 list named the Mayor, Councillor Penny Frost, at Twickenham and the Deputy Mayor at Richmond. The Mayor of Richmond upon Thames is now Councillor Nancy Baldwin, so the civic attendance in the 2026 list will read differently.

Road closures: what happened last year

Remembrance closures are short, rolling and run by police rather than by contractors, which is why they rarely appear in advance on the usual roadworks maps. They do appear in the council’s weekly roadworks and events bulletin, and last year’s bulletin set them out town by town.

  • Richmond: rolling closure 10.20am to 11am, starting at Park Lane and running via Little Green, The Green, King Street and Hill Street into Whittaker Avenue, returning by George Street and Duke Street to Park Lane.
  • Twickenham: rolling closure from 10.45am, The Embankment to Radnor Gardens, from the Waldegrave Road junction along Cross Deep to the King Street and Heath Road junction.
  • Teddington: rolling closure from 10am, High Street at the Kingston Road junction, via Broad Street into Hampton Road. Hampton Road itself closed 10.30am to 11.45am between Gloucester Road and the Stanley Road and Queens Road junction.
  • Hampton: rolling closure 10am to 2pm, Percy Road, Ashley Road, Station Approach, Tudor Road and Station Road into Oldfield Road. This is the longest window of the day.
  • East Sheen: Sheen Lane closed 10.40am to 11.20am between Milton Road and Larches Avenue.
  • Hampton Wick: High Street closed from the Park Road junction to the zebra crossing, 10.35am to 10.40am, with the roundabout held for about two minutes to let the parade through.
  • Petersham: Church Lane closed 10.50am to 11.05am.
  • Barnes: Church Road closed 10.55am to 11.05am between Kitson Road and Byfeld Gardens, on Remembrance Sunday and again on Armistice Day itself.

Those are 2025 closures. The 2026 versions will be published in the same bulletin during the last week of October or the first week of November.

The rugby: 82,000 people, from 11am

The council’s Twickenham rugby and event parking page, updated on 5 August 2026, lists England v Australia on Sunday 8 November 2026, kick-off 3.10pm, expected crowd 82,000.

That triggers the Twickenham Event Zone, Controlled Parking Zone R, which operates 11am to 11pm on event days. With a crowd above 30,000 the council normally implements the full zone, which covers a large number of roads around the stadium rather than the handful immediately opposite it.

So the parking restrictions start at 11am, the same minute as the silence. Parades in Twickenham, Whitton and East Twickenham finish inside that window.

Road closures near the ground are separate and later. The council says Rugby Road, Whitton Road between London Road and Kneller Road, and London Road between King Street and Whitton Road may be closed, typically 1.5 to 2 hours before kick-off and after the final whistle. For a 3.10pm start that means roughly from 1.10pm, well after every service has ended.

This is not new. England played Fiji at Twickenham on Remembrance Sunday last year, on 9 November 2025, also in front of 82,000, and both fitted around each other. The difference in 2026 is the earlier kick-off, which pulls the stadium build-up forward into the early afternoon.

Practical version: if you are going to a service in Twickenham, Whitton or St Margarets, walk or take the train, and do not leave a car on a residential street after 11am unless it carries a valid permit for that zone. Armistice Day

Armistice Day falls on Wednesday 11 November 2026. The two-minute silence is at 11am. Barnes closed Church Road for it last year as well as on the Sunday, which is the only borough road closure that has typically applied on the day itself.
